SPIRITUAL DIRECTOR’S CORNER:
Dear brothers and sisters in the Lord Jesus,
The next two Cursillo weekends in Lincoln at St. John’s are fast approaching.  We have a nice group of candidates, & there may be others added to the list as the weekends approach.
I invite & encourage you to continue to pray for the Candidates, the talk team, & the palanca team.  As you write palanca letters, the National Cursillo Center recommends that every Cursillista write one letter to the entire group of persons making the Cursillo weekend.  Then, if you personally know a candidate, you may also write an individual palanca letter to him or her. Also, if your Ultreya Center schedules hours of prayer or adoration for the success of the weekends, sign up for an hour.  If you can make it to one or both "closings", plan to be at the Fourth Day Mass at 4:00pm at St. John's Church in Lincoln.
The "closings" have changed a little bit in the last year or two.  We will be following the guidelines for the closing which is given by the National Secretariat in the new "Three Day Manual".  Some of the closing will be much like you have experienced before and some will be different.  One addition is that we will be having Exposition and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament during the closing.
As you do palanca, remember the importance of prayer, sacrifice and mortification.  The Modern Catholic Dictionary says of mortification: "The practice of Christian asceticism in order to overcome sin and master one's sinful tendencies, and through penance and austerity to strengthen the will in the practice of virtue and grow in the likeness of Christ. Natural mortification is a normal part of self-discipline; supernatural mortification, based on faith, seeks to grow in holiness through merit gained by cooperating with the grace of God.  (etymology: Latin mortificatio, a killing, a putting to death.)".  There is much to reflect on there.  Check a few of the other words in that definition in a dictionary and ponder...
May each of us grow in the likeness of Christ through the practice of the virtues.  May we sacrifice and pray and do palanca so that others may be open to the grace of God and also grow in his image and likeness.  May the Infant Jesus whose birth we have celebrated take birth anew in our hearts and help us to live again our fourth day.
    De Colores!      Fr. Mark Seiker
